About Wild Journeys Alaska
Wild Journeys is a private-only tour and transportation company based in Anchorage. We run private cruise transfers between Anchorage and the Seward and Whittier ports. In addition, we operate guided day tours into the Mat-Su Valley and Knik Glacier country. Every booking is private — your group only, no shared vans, no strangers in the seats next to you.
We started the company because Tim Cook had been guiding Alaska for over 20 years and kept running into the same problem: the tours available to visitors weren’t the Alaska that locals actually experience. The places worth going weren’t on the standard itineraries, so we built something different.
The Team
Everyone at Wild Journeys lives in Alaska year-round. That’s not a small thing, it means the guides know what the roads look like in October, which pullouts have the best Denali views on a clear morning, and where the salmon are running in a given week.
The team comes from commercial fishing, hunting guiding, photography, teaching, contracting, land surveying, pilot, gold miners and about a dozen other trades. Most of them were doing Alaska things long before they were guiding visitors. That background is the whole point — you’re not getting a script, you’re getting someone who actually knows Alaska.
Tim Cook-Founder
Tim has been guiding Alaska adventures for over 25 years. He founded Wild Journeys, Alaska ATV Adventures, and Arctic Air Expeditions.
He’s best known outside Alaska for his polar bear photography tours in the high Arctic, which have brought guests within range of some of the most remote wildlife on the planet. Inside Alaska he’s known as the guy who can get you somewhere worth going and make sure you understand what you’re looking at when you get there.
Why Private-Only
Wild Journeys operates private-only for a straightforward reason — it produces a better experience. When your group is the only group in the van, the driver can pull over when a moose walks out of the trees. The schedule can shift if your flight lands late. The stops can be the ones you actually want.
We’re not anti-bus tour. Bus tours have their place. But if you’ve come all the way to Alaska and you want to actually see it, private is the difference between watching the state go by and experiencing it.
