Alaska ATV Adventure — Chugach Backcountry from Anchorage
bout 40 minutes south of Anchorage, the Chugach Mountains drop into Bird Valley — a Pacific coastal rainforest corridor that most visitors never reach. Alaska ATV Adventures runs 3-hour backcountry ATV excursions through this terrain, through forested trails, past Bird Glacier, and up to viewpoints over Turnagain Arm.
This is a Wild Journeys sister company operated by Tim Cook. Bookings go directly through the Alaska ATV Adventures site.
About the Tour
The excursion runs approximately 3 hours from the Bird Valley Trailhead via Konikson Road in Bird Creek. Your guide meets you at the trailhead, provides ATV orientation, helmets, safety gear, and bear protection, and leads the ride from there.
The terrain covers the dividing line between the Pacific coastal temperate rainforest — the same forest system that runs from northern California — and the taiga snow forest that stretches north through Alaska into Siberia. The Bird Glacier waterfall is a common stop. Wildlife in the area includes brown bear, black bear, and bald eagles.
No prior ATV experience is required. The guide adjusts the ride to your group’s comfort level.
